With the exception of abstinence, All forms of birth control carry risks. Every couple should evaluate these risks with a doctor to find the best solution for their specific needs.

There are many factors which go into this decision including: accessibility, religion, comfort and side effects.

Nonoxynal 9, the active ingredient in all spermicides including VCF can cause a skin irritation in 2% of couples when used properly and use should be stopped when this occurs.

By contrast, hormonal options have side effects ranging from heart attack to stroke.

A condom is the safest solution when it comes to preventing STI's and should always be used for those who have multiple partners.

Research your statistics and potential side effects carefully and find something that works well for you. The important point is to use something as unintended pregnancies are at epidemic levels and are mostly preventable.

Well said Nathan, thank you for taking the time to comment. Kind regards Carole.
